Sample Hands-On Projects
Aircraft/Flying things Launch vehicles that you make. Create model aircrafts to carry what you want to where you want. Explore buoyancy and aerodynamics in everyday objects. Record your flight to show your friends and family. Electric Circuits Build your own switches, attach motors and lights, and connect batteries into your circuits. Make useful circuits such as alarms and doorbells. Invent toys that run around and move things. Make electronic quiz games that light up. Build-it Construct a bridge that you can walk over. Make models of buildings using Legos. Cut and put together wood parts with easy to use tools. Use your imagination to design future cities in wild places. Fossils Dig out fossils from excavation blocks. Assemble bones into dinosaurs. Create prehistoric scenes with creatures and plants that you make. Make casts of dinosaur footprints. Test for living parts in bones and egg shells. Chemistry Create mixtures of slime, oobleck, and silly putty. Make lotions with a personalized scent. Explore acids and bases in volcanic lava. Cook up tasty science with ice cream, butter, cotton candy, and more. Solar Power Energize circuits with solar cells. Experiment with different light sources, solar cells, motors, and toys. Use solar power for heating things up, growing plants, and powering electrical devices. (Project topics subject to change) |
Sample Computer-Based Projects
Website Production Use Weebly to make a webpage for your science and engineering projects. Add images from your experiments and pictures from online resources. Share your webpage with your friends and family at home. Computer Programming Use Scratch, Scratch Jr, Code.org, and Makers Empire. Make games that you and your friends can play together. Tell stories using pictures and images that you make and add sounds and music into your stories. Video Production Shoot and edit videos using green screen technology and animations using ipad, HUE Animation, GoPro camera, and Movie Maker software. Create a storyboard and script and add music and on-screen text to your final show. Robotics Programming Learn about the capabilities of the Edison robot using the barcode scanning programming, then modify the code using a computer to change the behavior. Create your own programs and build physical systems that attach to Edison. 2D and 3D Physical Printing Use the Cameo Silhouette digital cutter to create 2D art and functional pieces. Start with pre-made designs and then make your own. Move onto the design on TinkerCAD and 3D printer using models that you find or make. Virtual Reality Experiences Put on VR headsets to experience roller coaster rides and space launches. Make 360 degree videos for Youtube. Learn how to make digital models on Cospace that can be viewed on ipads and VR headsets. (Project topics subject to change) |
